A highly effective way of building your email list is to partner with other marketers who have a list of their own. When you work together you can help one another grow your lists, as well as a number of other things. But what’s the most effective way to find those potential JV partners?
The first potential partners a lot of marketers think of when looking for JV deals are the “big fish” in their market. That is, the marketers who have the highest profile in the market.
Those people are probably highly desirable JV partners, with large lists of their own, but if you’re just starting out it’s pretty unlikely that they will work with you. They’re going to want to partner with people who can give them as much leverage as they can provide.
When you’re getting started, you’re going to have a lot more success with smaller marketers who are also working on building their own lists.
Look for marketers who are a step or two up from where you are currently. If you have a list with 250 people on it, you might look for JV partners who have 500 people on their list. Think in terms of the next step in your growth, not where you want to ultimately be.
Where can you find these people? There are several places to do it:
- – Market-related forums
- – Paydotcom, Clickbank and other similar marketplaces
- – Google, Bing, etc.
- – Email lists that you subscribe to
Forums make excellent resources because they allow you to interact with people before approaching them as potential partners. And if you’re active in the forum, they will “know” you from there and be more likely to agree to some type of JV arrangement.
Clickbank, Paydotcom and other such networks are also good resources. Search for products that are related to your niche and identify marketers who are actively building email lists. The fact that they’re building a list makes them a good potential partner for you.
Search engines won’t give you as targeted a list of potential JVs but you can still use them to search for other sites in your market that are building lists. Check the paid ads as well as the natural search results to find potential partners who are already selling things to the market.
Lastly, consider the lists that you’re subscribed to in your market. All those marketers are potential JV partners as well. Just remember – you’re better off approaching smaller marketers at first. Leave the big guns until you have something to offer them in return.
